How does healing proceed after Micro Hair Pigmentation?

Micro Hair Pigmentation (MHP) is a popular solution for male pattern hair loss . Unlike a hair transplant, Micro Hair Pigmentation is a non-surgical procedure with a significantly shorter recovery time.

MHP or micro hair pigmentation is an ideal solution for those with advanced hair loss or those who do not prefer a surgical solution.

How a Micro Hair Pigmentation treatment works

Micro hair pigmentation is a cosmetic tattooing that uses fine MHP needles to apply pigment to the top layer of the scalp. This simulates hair stubble that is not recognized as a simulation.

This technique is often used in combination with a shaved haircut, creating a "shaven look". The goal is to increase hair density and restore or renew the hairline.

This is how hair loss is camouflaged naturally.

Depending on the wishes and the size of the area to be treated, a complete treatment at Prohairclinic Belgium often takes 4 hours (per treatment). Since we opt for a gradual build-up of intensity, 3 separate treatments are usually required with an interval of 1-2 weeks.

Scalp healing after Micro hair pigmentation

The pricks of the needles cause mini wounds, which cause the skin to start a healing process. However, the wounds are so small that bleeding rarely occurs.

Immediately after the treatment, the skin may be slightly red, which always disappears within 12 to 48 hours. The degree of redness can vary per skin type; for example, a light skin will show more redness than a tinted skin. Healing begins immediately after the treatment, after which the pigments will settle into the skin.

Pain after the treatment is not expected.

Between the third and fifth day after treatment, the scalp may start to peel (rarely). This is a normal part of the initial healing phase.

After five to ten days, the pigment may appear less visible or become lighter in color. This is because the skin is recovering and producing more horn cells, making the skin less transparent. The pigment will later return to the surface. The final result is visible after three to four weeks, when the skin has gone through all the phases.

Wearing a cap is permitted if desired (for example due to redness, work or sun). It is advised to take off the cap when it is no longer needed, so that the skin can breathe sufficiently.

Scalp aftercare

Aftercare is an important part of the treatment. By taking good care of the scalp, the pigments can adhere optimally and a great end result is guaranteed. It is important not to swim, sunbathe or use the sauna immediately after the treatment.

Further advice and the use of aftercare products will of course be discussed with the treating specialist.

With the shaved look version of hair pigmentation, it often occurs that the skin looks slightly to moderately shiny afterwards.
